This pattern is most common when the AI initiative was initiated by the technology team and presented to the business as a solution looking for a problem. The business case gets constructed after the technical decision, which means it is designed to justify the purchase rather than to make a genuine investment case.

Measuring Model Performance, Not Business Impact
The model achieves 93 percent accuracy. The project is declared a success. But six months later, the expected cost savings have not materialised because no one redesigned the process around the model output. When to Bring In Independent Oversight
